일리단 소설에 따르면

1단계: 악마를 죽인다. 반델의 경우 그것은 지옥사냥개였다. (반델은 지옥사냥개와 개인적인 감정이 있었다, 그들이 그의 아들을 먹었다.)

2단계: 악마의 심장을 먹고 그것의 피를 마신다.

3단계: 일리단이 당신을 지옥 번개로 지진다. 악마의 영혼이 당신을 집어삼키려고 하기 시작한다.

4단계: 당신의 꿈 속에서 악마를 다시 죽이고 그것의 심장을 한 번 더 먹는다.

5단계: 악마의 영혼이 당신을 도발하는 동안 무한한 우주를 넘어 군단이 수많은 세계를 파괴하는 환영을 본다.

6단계: 이 모든 엄청난 공포에 당신은 자신의 눈을 찢는다

7단계: 장님이 되어 어쩌면 미쳐버린 상태로 깨어난다. 영적 시야가 작동하기를 기다리는 동안 악마의 영혼의 말을 듣지 않는다.

8단계: 악마의 영혼이 당신을 압도하지 않도록 문신을 새긴다

9단계: 이 모든 과정을 거친 후에 당신의 몸은 (부분적으로) 악마의 몸처럼 변해있다. 반델의 경우, 그의 몸은 비늘로 덮였다. 반델은 그 비늘들을 떼어내려고 했으며 이 때문에 거의 죽을 뻔했다. 이 의식을 이어간 대부분은 자살한다. (의도하든 의도하지 않든)

Step 1: Kill a demon. In Vandel's case, it is a felhound (he has personal issues with them, one ate his son).

Step 2: Eat the demon's heart and drink its blood.

Step 3: Illidan zaps you with fel lightning.The demon's spirit begins trying to take over you.

Step 4: Kill the demon again in your dreams and eat its heart once more. 

Step 5: Receive visions of the Legion destroying countless worlds across infinite universes while the demon spirit taunts you.

Step 6: Tear your eyes out at the sheer horror of it all.

Step 7: Wake up blind and possibly insane, don't listen to the demon spirit while you wait for spectral sight to start working.

Step 8: Get tattooed to keep the demon spirit from overwhelming you

Step 9: After going through all above, find out that your body turned into (partly) one of the demons'. In Vandel's case, his was covered with scales, which led him to attempt to cut them off and almost died from it. Most of those succeed the ritual suicided (intentionally or unintentionally) here.
