Tentative 4.4 Lich Bane changes

Hey guys,

As some of you may have noticed by now, we're looking into some potential Lich Bane changes for the upcoming 4.4 patch. The item's current power is coming with some unintended consequences, so we want to scale things back a bit on the item and potentially give back to a few of the item's primary users. These changes are pretty much straight nerfs to Lich Bane, and we know that can be a hard pill to swallow. It is our hope that by getting the item into an acceptable state, we can move forward with the item continuing to help certain champions feel extra powerful, but without having these same champions feel incomplete without rushing it.

Here's the proposed changelist:

Lich Bane

• stats granted unchanged
• 50 base damage replaced with 75% of the character's Base Attack Damage
• AP ratio reduced to 0.5 from 0.75

Fizz

• Seastone Trident active Ability Power ratio increased to 0.25 from 0.15

Diana

• Passive Ability Power ratio increased to 0.8 from 0.6

Twisted Fate

• Pick A Card Ability Power ratio increased to 0.5 from 0.4
• Stacked Deck Ability Power ratio increased to 0.5 from 0.4

First, I never build , so I would be really happy to see the nerf.
But, I honestly don't think  is op. The real problem is some champion themselves like   and , not the item.

A big problem with Lich Bane is that it currently provides such a crazy AP ratio on top on AP ratio that characters already have attached to their basic attacks in their kits. See Fizz Q+W, Kayle E, TF W+E. We hope that by lowering the AP ratio on this single item, champions can have slightly higher AP ratios on their AP-based basic attacks in their kits, thus making Lich Bane not as mandatory and not as crazy a spike in power. It should be especially useful for these characters in games where they're behind and have to rush a more defensive option like Zhonya's Hourglass. Additionally, it should make the times where they do get to rush a Lich Bane not quite so terrifying for opponents.

리치 베인의 큰 문제는 현재 그것이 이미 기본 공격에 AP 계수를 붙이는 스킬셋을 가진 챔피언들에게 미친 AP 계수를 제공해 준다는 겁니다. 피즈의 Q+W, 케일의 E, 트페의 W+E를 보세요. 저희는 이 하나의 아이템에 붙은 Ap 계수를 줄임으로서, 챔피언들이 AP-기반 기본 공격 스킬에 붙은 AP 계수를 살짝 올려도 되도록 하고 싶습니다. 리치 베인을 필수적으로 올리지 않아도 되도록 만들고, 리치 베인을 뽑은 순간 파워가 미칠 듯이 치솟지(spike) 않도록 말이죠. 이건 이들 챔피언들이 뒤쳐져서 존야의 모래시계와 같은 방어적 옵션의 아이템을 우선 올려야만 할 때 매우 유용할 것입니다. 추가적으로, 이들이 리치 베인을 서둘러 올렸을 때 상대방에게 그렇게까지 공포스럽지 않도록 만들 겁니다.

The only thing I don't really like is that there's no way to really proc Diana's passive the same way you can proc Lich Bane.

I agree that Lich Bane does feel a little bit different on Diana than most these other guys since the attack on which she procs the Lich Bane usually is not the one on which she procs her passive. That being said, I think it's fair to say that being successful on Diana should include using her passive effectively on opponents, so the proposed AP ratio increase on her passive should help make up for whatever hit she may incur from a Lich Bane nerf.

다른 챔피언들과 달리 다이애나는 리치베인이 발동되는 공격은 보통 그녀의 패시브가 발동되는 공격이 아니므로 약간 다르게 느껴진다는 것에 동의합니다. 하지만, 제 생각에 제대로 다뤄지는 다이애나는 상대방에게 그녀의 패시브를 넣어야 한다고 보므로, 패시브의 AP 계수를 늘려 주는 건 리치 베인 너프로부터 오는 타격의 보상을 해 줄것입니다.

nefing lichbane while buffing only a small amount of champions makes lichbane a specific item for specific champions

Though I can understand where you're coming from with that, keep in mind that the champions that have proposed buffs are currently on the weaker side. Ones that are already on the stronger side have been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, and they are performing pretty well for the most part. If these nerfs go through, then even despite the nerfs, most of these champions will still regularly be able to hit with basic attacks that deal around 100% of their AP (assuming they have a Lich Bane).

What about Akali or AP Ezreal? These champions also use Lichbane as a core item, how come they are not getting AP ratio compensation on thier on hit abilities?

It feels rather odd that Diana would even get this compensation buff seeing that she doesn't have an on hit spell compared to Fizz/TF nor is a core item on her.

Akali definitely falls into the category of Lich Bane user, but she is also already performing quite well at the moment, so buffs to her seem a little scary, especially since she doesn't tend to rush this item.

As for Ezreal, that's a discussion that can be brought up, but buffing his Q AP ratio for AP Ezreal's benefit has implications on his significantly more common build. That being said, he's on the weaker side of the spectrum right now, so I can't say it's out of the question.

Akali relies on getting Lich bane so that she doesn't falls off late game, just nerfing this item and not compensating on Akali's ratio is going to make her irrelevant late game, especially since Akali is not even dominant pick like the rest of the champions getting compensation atm, so idk whats going to be scary about that.

Saying that Diana is getting compensation, most definitely means Akali needs one as well since they are both similar champions that have clashed many times into who being the better one (Diana being Akali 2.0 but better). Diana also doesn't rush this item either, she most likely gets Hourglass or tanky AP items first...so this doesn't seems to make sense at all.

This will just be a big in-direct nerf to Akali's Lategame when she doesn't even needs one.

If you had to add compensation, the thing is that Akali does have an AP on hit passive: Discipline of Force, so she does falls into the category of getting compensated for lichbane nerfs.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Akali is a late game AP hypercarry since she has a weak early game therefore such adjustments will be needed to preserve it if Lichbane is going to take such a heavy nerf due to others making it a problem not Akali.

아칼리는 확실히 리치 베인를 사용하는 챔피언에 속합니다만, 지금 이미 꽤 좋은 성적을 거두고 있기에, 버프를 해 주는 건 조금 무섭습니다. 특히 아칼리가 리치 베인을 빠르게 올리지 않는 경향이 있는 걸 봐서는요.

이즈리얼의 경우, 논의해 볼 필요가 있지만, AP 이즈리얼을 위해 Q의 AP 계수를 올리는 건 보통 빌드에도 영향을 미칩니다. 하지만, 그는 현재 약한 축에 속하기 때문에, 완전히 논외라고는 말할 수 없겠군요.

다이애나도 보상을 받는다면, (다이애나는 아칼리 2.0 이란 말을 들었지). 다이애나도 마찬가지로 이 아이템을 빠르게 올릴 필요가 없어. 대부분 존야나 탱키한 AP 아이템을 먼저 가지... 따라서 이건 전혀 말이 안 되는 것 같아.

이건 아칼리의 후반게임에 대해 커다란 간접적이며 불필요한 너프가 될 뿐이라고.

만약 보상을 해 준다면, 아칼리의 패시브에 AP 온힛 계수를 주는 게 좋다고 봐. 그러면 리치베인 너프에 대해 보상받는 챔피언의 분류에 들어가겠지.

수정: 아칼리는 약한 초반 게임을 가지는 대가로 후반 AP 하이퍼캐리가 되는데, 따라서 만약 리치베인이 아칼리 말고 다른 챔피언들 때문에 저런 중대한 너프를 받게 된다면 위와 같은 조정이 필요하다고 말하는 걸 깜빡했다.

What about Kayle? She just got a pretty strong nerf to her q, I thought that was enough for her. She feels fine now. Aren't you concerned that this will hurt her too much? I'm a bit biased as I main Kayle, but...I'm worried about this change, it's a pretty important item for her. Are you considering any compensation for her if this goes through?

I main Kayle too. Not too worried about her to be honest. She is still quite strong at all levels of play, and she has other powerful build options. If this turns out to be true, it's something I'd love to give consideration to. Love me some Kayle buffs!

Why are you making it scale off of base ad? Isn't it more clear to make it scale with levels like Sunfire Cape? It would be easier for players to evaluate the item in this fashion. What about something like:

35 + (2.5 per level) + 50% AP

I know scaling with base ad will favor champions with higher values of that stat, however since the ratio is considerably small (75%) I believe the difference is not gonna be significant.

As I stated in another thread:

The difference in damage of a Lich Bane proc at level 18 between the highest base ad (skarner with 129.7) and the lowest base ad (Thresh with 85.6) is going to be 33 damage, minus resistances it is going to be around 20 damage. Remember, this is at level 18 and it is between the lowest and highest base ads in the game, at early levels the difference is going to be even smaller. And the difference gets even smaller if you pick random champions.

I can give this some consideration, as clarity is pretty important. The main reason I didn't immediately go this route is that the Sheen line of items all scale off the champion's Base AD, so it seemed natural that Lich Bane could as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

기본 공격력에 기반하는 건 높은 기본 공격력 수치를 가진 챔피언들에게 더 좋게 작용할 거란 건 알지만, 계수가 상당히 작은 걸 봐서는 (75%) 그 차이는 그리 중요하지 않을 것 같아.

내가 다른 쓰레드에서 언급했듯이 말이지:

레벨 18 때 리치 베인 발동 피해량의 차이는 가장 높은 AD(스카너의 129.7)와 가장 낮은 기본 AD(쓰레쉬의 85.6)을 보면 33이 되고, 저항력 때문에 줄어드는 것을 감안하면 약 20 정도가 될 거야. 기억해, 이건 레벨 18 기준이고 게임 내에서 가장 낮은 AD와 높은 AD의 차이이므로, 보다 낮은 레벨에선 차이가 더욱 줄어들어. 그리고 이 차이는 무작위한 챔피언을 고른다면 더욱 줄어들겠지.

의 패시브 계수 0.6 → 0.8 상향이 없었습니다. 아마 가까운 시일 안에 PBE에 적용되지 않을까 싶습니다.

또한 현재 피드백의 내용을 봐선
, 과 에 대한 버프도 고려 중인 듯 합니다. 단, 리치 베인 너프와 동시에 이루어질지, 리치 베인 너프 이후 성적을 봐서 너무 떨어지는 것이 확인되면 그때 버프해줄지는 아직 알 수 없습니다. 와 의 경우는 현재 성적이 준수하기에 의 너프와 동시에  보상 버프를 해 줄 가능성은 매우 희박해 보입니다.

마지막으로 기본 피해량이 챔피언 기본 공격력의 75%에서 와 비슷하게 레벨 기반으로 바뀔 수도 있습니다.
